Fox Sports has removed a controversial tweet in which a user suggested that a female sports journalist should be punished for reporting on the Zika virus.
The user, @thesunny_sunny, who identifies as a male, tweeted: “This reporter is the worst, but the guy who got raped on the sideline was a bitch.
She deserved it.”
She has since deleted the tweet.
However, she has since shared a new version of the tweet, which is now widely shared.
It includes the words “The man who got fucked on the sidelines was a whore.”
In it, she says: “If you want to rape a girl in the stands, it was your job.
If you want your victim to give you oral sex, it wasn’t your job.”
Fox Sports editor-in-chief Sean McManus has apologised for the tweet and has apologised to the victim, according to the New York Times.
“Our mistake was to share this tweet, and we are sorry for offending anyone,” McManuses said.
“We are also deeply sorry for the hurt and hurtful words used in this tweet.”
